Defend Free Speech. Let George Galloway speak in Canada

WHEREAS, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Jason Kenney banned British Member of Parliament George Galloway from entering Canada on March 19, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Kenney’s spokesperson cited Galloway’s views on the war in Afghanistan and the situation in the Middle East as reasons for banning Galloway from Canada; and

WHEREAS, Kenney’s ban represents an unprecedented attack on free speech and civil liberties in Canada; and

WHEREAS, Kenney’s ban threatens the rights of Canadians to decide for themselves whether they support or oppose Galloway’s views; and

WHEREAS, Canadians have the right to free speech and expression, and to free association and assembly, without fear of retribution by the Canadian government for expressing dissenting or critical views:

BE IT RESOLVED THAT Jason Kenney immediately overturn his ban preventing British Member of Parliament George Galloway from entering Canada; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT [enter the name of your organization or group here] formally endorse the Defend Free Speech Campaign; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT [enter the name of your organization or group here] write a letter of concern to Jason Kenney, demanding that he overturn his ban on Galloway; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT [enter the name of your organization or group here] make a financial contribution of [enter dollar amount here] to the Defend Free Speech Campaign to help cover mounting court courts.
